Sometimes all I need is a hug, whether I’m sad or happy. All over the world, hugging is recognized as a common form of greeting. Depending on culture, context and relationship, a hug can indicate familiarity, love, affection or friendship. One person may also hug another as an indication of support, comfort, and consolation. In some cultures and for some people, especially between strangers, a hug may not be the norm and can be considered an invasion of private space. I find that in some cultures, people don’t hug but they do give handshakes when they greet or when they say their goodbyes to avoid awkwardness. There has been extensive research carried out on the psychological benefits of being hugged. The results show that an average person needs at least 4 hugs a day.

Watching a video I found on YouTube made me realize that not everyone is a huger. Some people find it a bit awkward and think hugging is weird. Others always think there should be a particular reason to hug, and some generally don’t like hugging at all.

This guy decided to hit the streets and give free hugs to strangers. Watch the outcome in the video below.

Some people need hugs more than others. Maybe they are battling with low self esteem, battling with an addiction or an illness and all they need is someone to say “I love you, here’s a hug, all will be fine”. Why not hug someone today? You might touch someone’s life is an incredible way.
