What’s your playlist?
You can tell a lot about someone by knowing what music they listen to.
It hit me the other day when I was scrolling through my own music, and I began to think that it’s funny how my personality matches my music. For example, I love hip hop, but I also love Christian music. I began to laugh at myself because it was a pretty good reflection of my personality.
Is this a good or bad thing? To be honest, I’m not sure. I think the type of music we listen to does ultimately affect the way we think and do life – but I think to an extent it’s awesome that every single person can create themselves through the music they listen to. It almost places the responsibility of whether it is good or bad on you.
Let’s be diverse. I think that listening to one genre of music makes you kind of boring in a way. It’s almost like being the colour grey. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from studying music over the past few years it’s that there is growth in diversity. Listening to multiple genres and appreciating the art behind the genre brings so much more clarity to the type of music you prefer to listen to.
I would have never known that hip hop is my first choice of music if I never listened to everything else. Be diverse, let your personality be relative to all, and appreciate the art.
